Hot Celebs!

Now that uni is back I find myself spending the majority of the time procrastinating on the internet. I thought I'd share this this website which i stumbled across a while ago...

Before you wonder why I'm suggesting you check it out, it actually has lots of piccies of celebs in amazing high quality which means you can zoom right in (glad it's them & not me!) and get a really clear look at their makeup! The site does have a lot of pictures that aren't so great for makeup but there are heaps of pics and people to search through.

To show you what I mean here are some pictures I have pinched from the site, click on them to see the fabulous quality.

So for all those beauty obsessed it's a fantastic site for looking at gorgeous makeup, getting inspiration  and wasting lots of time

The Second Story

Benefit's Crescent Row second story trio that is. They are the 3 very cute new additions to Benefit's perfume range. The fragrances came out last week and I was lucky enough to get my hands on one at the blogger event a few weeks ago and have been using it ever since.

The 3 new additions are;

Garden of Good & Eva
Lookin' to Rock Rita
So Hooked on Carmella

In usual benefit style they come in very cute packaging each with their own quirky little box. They had the perfumes set up at the blogger event in a cute little stand which was very charming as you can see below.

Photo from Maxted Thomas PR

Blogging about perfume is a funny sort of thing which is actually really hard and I am hopeless at describing scents but will do the best I can! Its top notes are rhubarb, lemon and grapefruit with cyclamen, peony and tiare flower middle notes and vanilla, sandalwood and amber bottom notes. So it's a florally vanillery smell which is sweet but balanced out nicely so it's not over the top.

The thing that caught my attention (or should i say nose) about Carmella was the fact that it had rhubarb in it. I love rhubarb and love the idea. The scent is really quite unusual and unlike anything i have smelt before. A friend said it reminded her of creaming soda and I can totally see what she means.

I think this scent is unusual and quite different from other perfumes. I can imagine that it would not be for everyone. I'm not sure if I would buy this perfume again but I am liking it at the moment and will be checking out the others, particularly Lookin' to Rock Rita. I think Carmella needs a next door neighbour!

Obviously you're not going to race out and buy one based on my lousy description but I would recommend you go take a sniff, if nothing else you get to have a peek at the cute display and packaging!

Beauty Blogger Event!

Hello hello,

I was over the moon to be invited by Maxted Thomas PR to beauty bloggers event at Brad Ngata's hair salon in Surry Hills. I took my lovely friend Marianne and had a great day. I somehow managed to forget my camera so i have pinched some from MTPR for your viewing pleasure.

We arrived at the cute salon on Sunday afternoon and were greeted by the happy Maxted Thomas team, name tags, champagne and most importantly masses of makeup everywhere we looked. We were told to head on in and look around the various stations they had set up for each brand so away we went.

Orly - First stop was Orly to get our nails done by the wonderful Orly team. They did their thing - filed, buffed and polished and after much deliberation over what colour (talk about a tough choice - so many gorgeous colours to choose from) i settled on Prince Charming which was a lovely browny taupey colour which was very fitting for winter. Marianne on the other hand went with a bright bubblegum bluey greeney colour called gumdrop which was really cute. I actually don't have much experience with Orly and haven't really seen them around so it was great to have first hand experience with their products. My initial impressions are good - my nail polish wish list has just massively increased!

Getting our nails done :)

Benefit - Next stop was Benefit which was just fab. I love benefit and the benefit girls or benebabes were lovely and so much fun! They gave Marianne and I mini makeovers and did a great job. After the event we were taken to the Benefit Boutique and had our eyebrows waxed and tinted along with false lashes applied. My eyebrows now look amazing - thanks benefit! I think Benefit is a great brand which i really don't have enough of.

Marianne and I (Really should have put the glass out of the snap, oh well at least it was after 12 :P)

Jane Iredale - This is a brand which i was not at all familiar with. They had makeup artists set up doing mini makeovers and makeup demonstrations with lots of their  products on display. Having not heard of them it was nice to have a play with their products. The makeup artist was telling me that they only sell in salons and plastic surgeons offices which makes sense as to why i have not seen them. They are a mineral makeup brand and i love the concept of no harsh chemicals on the skin at the same time as doing a great job of covering roscaea and other skin problems.

Trilogy - I was so exited that trilogy was there. I jumped on the rosehip oil bandwagon about 2 months ago and have been using their rosehip oil religiously since. Seeing as i have been focussed on the rosehip oil i had overlooked their other products. They have a wide range of products from mens to anti aging to sensitive so no one misses out.

Nivea - We were welcomed by the nivea team and given a quiz to determine which product was best for us which was a bit of fun. We then listened to a talk by Nivea representatives who actyally gave a really interesting talk. There was a lot of focus on the Q-10 range and a new exciting product coming out soon which i will have to post about. Where would i be in winter without their moisturiser!

Getting the Nivea spiel

Brad Ngata - He was at the salon working his magic on lots of the girls. Can that guy use a GHD, talk about jealous, if only i could do that. One day when i'm not a poor uni student this is where i'm heading!

It was a fantastic day and i would like to thank everyone at MaxtedThomasPR for organising it. Everyone was so lovely and it's great that they have acknowledged the role of beauty bloggers :)

NOTD Red

Hello everyone,
Here's a quick nail of the day.
I'm back at uni and have been sick all week (hence the lack of blog posts) so i decided a pop of red would brighten my day.

This is Haute Red courtesy of Orly. I'm not normally a red nail polish fan but i really like this colour, it's not too dark and adds a bit of oomph to my amazingly drab winter wardrobe. The colour is a bit darker in real life than what it looks in the snap but you get the idea. I still can't find my camera so to make up for the poor quality photos I pinched this swatch from the Orly website.

This is my first Orly polish and i must say i am impressed. It applied like a dream and i only had to apply one coat which never happens with other brands! One of the things i love the most is the bottle and the lid. It has more grip than brands like OPI which means it's easier to open and nice to hold.

Anyway my first experience with Orly gets a big thumbs up, i will have to hunt down some more. Exciting post on the Beauty blogger coming soon!

AND

♥ The blogger event - I am soooo excited about the blogger event for Australian beauty bloggers that i have been invited to in Sydney on the weekend.

Out

♥  My crappy hair cut and colour - as you may know from one of my previous posts i got my hair done. I wanted lighter ends and a tiny bit off the ends but it looks nothing like what i asked for. She cut off heaps which had taken me ages to grow and i am going to have to dye it at home tonight. I'm so annoyed - I have zebra stripe hair arhhh

♥  Not being able to find my camera - still haven't found it i really hope it turns up before the weekend so i can take heaps of snaps

♥  The cold weather - I'm over winter.  I don't want to rack up a huge electricity bill to so i'm trying not to use my heater. I have much better things to spend money on - hello makeup! So a blanket for me it is.

L'oreal studio secrets primer

I still have not found my camera which is making me very sad :( Some i'm going to have to use some internet from the internet. So i bought the L'oreal studio secrets primer a few weeks ago and i am telling you i am loving it.

I have used up my Becca mineral primer and didn't want to fork out heaps for it again so this one was calling my name! I put it on the other morning and my face didn't even get that shiny. Admittedly it is winter here at the moment and my skin does not get anywhere near as oily as it does in summer but it still get quite oily around my nose and t-zone but this stuff worked its magic! It's a marshmallowy fluffy texture which goes on the skin smoothly and didn't hasn't broken me out. My foundation stays put and smooth. I love this stuff!

The downside i found to this primer is the packaging - the jar thing is annoying. Also the small amount of product and being picky the fact that it doesn't have an SPF.

I think the real test for this primer will be summer, i'll have to remember to give an update in summer.

Prestige gloss

I read about this lipgloss on Belle Du Jour's blog and knew i had to pick one up. It's the Prestige Skin Loving Minerals Lip gloss in Soft Peach. I'm not a huge lip gloss fan but i do like a gorgeous glossy lip if the gloss is a good one.

The only other Prestige product i own is the sun baked bronzing powder which i haven't used much but will probably dig it out when the weather becomes warmer. The price for the gloss was okay at AUD$18.95. Obviously not as good as in America, i think it's only $7.99 - talk about price inflation!

It has a nice soft texture and is not too sticky! Sometimes i find MAC ones a bit sticky but they do have great colours. Anyway I find this one has a nice consistency. It doesn't stay on for ages like some stickier glosses but i personally would rather reapply than be constantly be pulling my hair off my lips. I always seem to have dry lips and i often find that glosses just make them worse but this one doesn't really dry them. I think i read somewhere that is is enriched with shea butter so big thumbs up for that.

It is a pretty sheer nudey peach and doesn't have a lot of colour which i quite like, it makes it really versatile. It does have a bit of glitter through it but not over the top. You can sort of see what i mean in the photo above.

Overall i'm pretty impressed. I haven't paid much attention to Prestige but i think i will have to take a closer look at their range.

Has anyone tried this gloss or other Prestige glosses?

Hair-spiration

I am getting my hair cut and coloured tomorrow woohoo. About time, it's long overdue. At the moment my hair is a fairly plain medium brown colour.  It has a bit of a natural wave and is reasonably long going past my shoulders, just so you know.

At this stage for the colour (although my mind changes very quickly) i am leaning towards getting balayage done to have this effect. I really like the look but was curious as to your opinions. Here are some of my favourite snaps.

(All pics from google images)

Hit me with your thoughts on this effect!

I'm a size 9. I seriously used to be a size 10, some people think i'm crazy but my feet really did get smaller!

This is too hard, i just can't do it!

Do you have any pets?
Nope, i would love a puppy but at the moment that would be waaay to much responsibility.

1 sister Bethany who is three years older than me.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Hmmm there isn't one place i can pick. Somewhere warm, friendly and laidback with my friends and where i could have an amazing job haha. More realistically as boring as it may seem i really do love Sydney.

Essie

Hey everyone,

Here are my first essie polishes. I ordered them off ebay from enchantedbeautyspot who were great, i have since ordered candy mint apple which is currently on its way and i can't wait to get my hands on it. They arrived the day before my last exam and boy it was hard not to be tempted to paint my nails instead of study!

Left to right: Tart deco, Van D'go, Neo Whimsical, Lilacism, Chinchilly

I have only tried Van D'go since i got them and so far i love it. No doubt you can expect lots of NOTD's coing up.

Like a true addict i am already lusting after more, i like the look of jazz and angora cardi. At this rate i need more hands and fingers!

Anyway i'm now on my mid year break from uni and am heading to New Zealand next week, i can't wait. I will be attempting to ski but i am sooo uncoordinated it will be very interesting haha. I'm sure i'll manage to fit some shopping in too - duty free here i come!

Ready Set Go

Hi there girlies!

I bought this new Australis Ready Set Go finishing powder the other day and so far it ticks all the tight boxes; it increases the wear of my foundation, soften the appearance of imperfections (big tick) and blurs lines.

(It's hard to take a decent photo of a white powder!)

It’s a translucent powder that is I think is similar to MAC’s prep + prime finishing powder, which i just finished up a sample. I do want to get Mac’s version but on my very sad student’s budget this will have to do for that at the moment. The main ingredient in the Australis one is silica which is also an ingredient in Mac’s finishing powder - so they do have similarities. I did a little google on silica and found out the it’s what gives nail polish the smooth surface appearance – very interesting.

I have only used it a few times but so far I find it absorbs oil well which will be handier for my skin in summer but it seems to be doing an okay job at keeping my pores and uneven surfaces concealed.

For a cheapish product i'm reasonably happy

Natural Brows

My eyebrows look absolutely shocking at the moment. I had the brilliant idea of trying to start over with them. My aim is to get them threaded. I just wasn't happy with the shape and how they sat - those things just can't stay in place! So in the name of beauty i have been growing them out.

I have since realised that i can't find anyone who does eyebrow threading where i live so will have to hunt someone down elsewhere. The only downside is that I'm currently in the middle of study week for my exams (hence the lazy posts) so won't be able to get them done for a while which means i am stuck with less than fabulous brows. I am trying to convince myself that natural brows can look fantastic, unfortunately these are not what mine look like!

Anyway here are some photos of some natural brows (Oh if only this is what i was channeling...)

 Armand Basi one

Dior

(Snaps from google images)

Knowing me i will probably be lazy and cave and not get them threaded but here's hoping.

Has anyone got their eyebrows threaded before? If so what are your thoughts?

RAWR

I really should be doing uni work but decided this would be much more fun.

Leopard print nails - my really bad first attempt haha. I'm definitely not going to show you my right hand!

I have to say this is the first time i have ventured into patterned nails so they are quite dodgy. Oh well no one will really be looking that closely. I kinda like them, they're a bit of fun.

Here is what i used. Looking at the colours now they seem more suited to a tiger, maybe next time...

I started off with two coats of Ulta3 Spring fling. I then used the small brush which i picked up really cheaply at spotlight to paint random splodges of China Glaze V and once that dried added an outline sort of thing in Ulta3 black stain. I then added a top coat and was done.

Don't know if this will be a regular thing as patience is not something i have lots of but i'm already thinking about what i can have a crack at next. I might have to check out the Konad kit.

Anyway back to the uni work i go :)
